artist statement

I am a mixed media visual artist, using abstraction, text, and found materials to tell stories and provoke questions. I create work inspired by the colourful visual language of Web 1.0 and 1990s rave flyers, appropriating the ironic language of social media to ask sincere questions about the modern world.

Many of my pieces involved found materials, the detritus of consumer culture, such as paintings on boards found in the abandoned staff area of Colchester's former Laura Ashley shop. I incorporate collage into my paintings, using secondhand non-fiction books to create fantastical visual narratives. I am experienced in delivering creative collage workshops focussing on storytelling using found images.

My practice also encompasses curating and interventions into archives.
